FAQs: Leeds Rhinos Netball Hubs

What are the Leeds Rhinos Netball Hubs?

Leeds Rhinos Netball Hubs are targeted at players who want to access specialist netball coaching to complement playing at school, club or already on the pathway. Players in the Rhinos Netball Hubs may be aspiring to secure a place in a Rhinos Netball Academy.

Where and when will the Leeds Rhinos Netball Hubs train?

The Leeds Rhinos Netball Hubs will be held in five separate locations with each age group (U11, U13, U15 and U17) at every location. These Hubs are based on where there is existing demand for activity and established partnerships with key partners such as clubs and schools/colleges:

  • Leeds – Gateways School
  • Hull – Bishop Burton College
  • East Lancashire – Oakhill College
  • York – York University
  • North East – Grangetown

We plan to extend the number of Hubs. The details of the training schedule for the Leeds Rhinos Netball Hubs will be issued on the relevant Invitation to Trial letter, as dates, times, venues are specific to each location.

What does the Hub offer?

Each Hub will provide training on a fortnightly basis in addition to the opportunity to play in festivals during the year. Players will benefit from between 1-1.5 hours quality coaching alongside access to off-court support and development plans. All coaches in the Hubs will be from the Leeds Rhinos Netball Coaching Team and skilled to coach the “Rhinos Netball way”. Coaches and athletes in the Hubs will have a close relationship with coaches and athletes in the Academies. The Hub Programme will be developed and overseen by Anna Carter.

How many athletes will be selected in each Hub?

Approximately 30-35 players will be selected for each Rhinos Netball Hub. In the first year of the programme we aim to engage between 300-600 athletes across the Rhinos Netball Hubs. Trials for the Hubs will be based locally and advertised through the website in due course.

How will Leeds Rhinos Hub players be assessed and what are we looking for?

Experienced selectors will assess the girls for basic skills, athletic ability and potential. This will be assessed through drills, skills and match play. We want athletes who love the game and show willing to improve and be their best. Athletes applying for U11 Hubs will not trial, but places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

What kit is required for Hub players?

For the Hubs, it will be compulsory for players to purchase a Rhinos Netball training top and Rhinos netball zip hoodie. Cost will be approximately £35 per person. There will be additional optional kit which players may choose to purchase, including: a fusion jacket, a soft shell, a rain jacket and a sports bra, all which are individually priced and will be available through the website once athletes have been selected onto the Programmes.

How much will the Leeds Rhinos Netball Hub programme cost?

The cost of the programme will be confirmed in advance of the relevant trial. Costs do not include kit. Camps, festivals and workshops will be an additional cost, as these are less predictable and not necessarily evenly spread. No refunds will be available, other than exceptional circumstances (e.g. serious injury).
